- Last week, Mama Jae and I had dinner with two families with young children. I got promised a pregnancy pillow, which was dropped off to me today. SCORE. Though it is huge, and I’m not sure it’ll fit in the bed with me and Mama Jae and Oliver.
- My oldest sister sent me a box full of her old pregnancy clothes. This is awesome and also hilarious, because our body types could not be any more different. While pregnant, she looked like a chopstick with, like, a gumball glued to the front. The woman has no hips whatsoever. Me, on the other hand: I have hips, and other assets (ahem!) in abundance. So when I tried her “maternity” clothes on, some of them fit, some of them looked like overstuffed sausage casing, and some of them I couldn’t even get on past mid-thigh. I was cracking up when I tried to try those on, but I’m glad no one else was there to witness it. I do have some really lovely new things to wear in a month or so, though, so yay!
- For now, I have a trustworthy set of clothes purchased at the beginning of the new year during all of the post-holiday sales. They are mostly regular clothes in a size or two up from what I usually wear, and they have been serving me quite well, especially with the use of my trusty belly band.
- My coworkers are fantastic. There is a speaker at my museum tonight, and I am working late. Usually the person working late has to set up all the chairs, which is a lot of lifting and abdominal rotating. But without even knowing I was not into it, two of them did the setup themselves before leaving for the day.
- Two of Mama Jae’s and my favorite people in the whole world have started the adoption process. They had been TTC for years, and are perhaps the couple most deserving to have children that I know. While their decision to take this new path wasn’t easy, clearly, it is so exciting to think that they could finally get to be parents, maybe as soon as this year. Maybe, even, around the same time as us. The thought of raising our children knowing each other makes me all teary. Plus, we got to write a letter of recommendation for them, and getting to participate in their process, even in this tiny way, was such an honor. As she would say, heart.
- This weekend half a dozen of our friends descended on our house and carted a bunch of our shit away and into storage. They also bagged about 43 bags of leaves and chopped down a ton of brush. All day yesterday and the day before I continued packing and doing other house-readying things. It was exhausting but I feel very accomplished. Today we had the house cleaned, and I can’t wait to get home and see how great it looks. Suddenly we are thisclose to putting it on the market, and while I hate that we will be losing money (and that we seem to be spending so much to get it ready), it’s nice to think about the new chapters this move will bring: the bao, and in a year or so, us moving to a new city.
- I am 16 weeks, 2 days pregnant. Woah. I guess that means I’m four months, suddenly, and in another month I will be halfway through the pregnancy. Holy crap!
- ETA: GASP! How could I have forgotten this?!? So, so many congratulations to the ladies at Project Kjetl and Pufferfish for the births of their beautiful sons. Mazel tov, y’all!
