try #3 begins

I kept telling myself that I would not allow myself to post until I had caught up on everyone else’s blogs, but that doesn’t seem to have happened yet, and what has happened is that we are doing insemination #3 this week. So here we are. The good side is that during the TWW when I can’t focus I will have plenty of stuff to read!

Ultrasound this morning: check. Two ready follicles on the right side: check; lining juiced up and triple sec (triple sec & juice–there has GOT to be a good cocktail name in there somewhere): check. Ovidrel shot: check. Insemination at 11:30 tomorrow morning: check. ALL SYSTEMS GO!

So the last real time I posted I had three goals: eat everything I wanted; get back on the yoga/hoo-ha workout train; and read some stuff. The first goal was no problem. The Other and I basically chowed our way through the greater Boston area on our trip a couple of weeks ago and it was fantastic. Ooh! I have pictures.

We also had breakfast at The Neighborhood in Union Square, and I devoured poached eggs on crabcakes with hollandaise. (ETA: why are those three words just hanging out up there between those pictures? Maybe The Other will log on and fix it.)

So, first goal completed to everyone’s satisfaction. The second and third goals were not so easy. I have been doing some yoga in the mornings, though not every morning, and not my hoo-ha exercises. Sigh. But today’s ultrasound was the least painful of all the ones I have had, so I am going to give myself a little break. The third goal, of reading more about pregnancy, is a wash. I checked What to Expect When You’re Expecting: Fourth Edition out of the library and read a couple of chapters, but it’s so in-depth that it seemed stupid to read at this juncture. Like, I don’t really need to know right now what the sixth month will be like. If I read it now, I’ll just have to read it again when (if?) it’s actually relevant. So again, cutting myself some slack here.

cute!

Since getting back from Boston, I’ve been feeling a bit blah. We are just not very into living here, and the contrast with Boston, especially Boston in the summer, makes that much more apparent. Although I am happier at my job than I have ever been since I started, we miss having a bigger group of friends here. We’re making good progress on that front, though, meeting and hanging out with new people. Last week we met up with some people The Other met at school, getting beers and playing trivia, and that was super fun. Over the weekend we hung out with the family with the two Asian munchkins at the local farmer’s market. Here is The Other with the toddler (she’s a natural! He adores her). You can also see fat Asian baby leg poking out beneath the dad’s arm.

So now here we are, smack in the middle of our third attempt. Before today, I was feeling a little pessimistic about it. We only bought three vials, and here we are at our third attempt, so if this one doesn’t work we have to buy more. We are stretched a little thin financially right now so we may have to borrow more money or take a few months off if this one doesn’t take. But I keep telling myself something I read on some TTC site somewhere: we will always have the chance to make more money, but I will never be younger or more fertile than I am right now. That definitely puts things in perspective and makes me relax somewhat. Although I went to sleep last night with a feeling of dread, this morning, after the ultrasound, I am feeling hopeful and optimistic and excited again. Third time’s the charm, right?!?

Ah, Boston. I went to college around there. Great town…especially for good eats! I hope this is it for you. You've got a great attitude! Good luck! (As for the What to Expect book, my cousin lent it to us and was adament that it was more a reference guide than a read.)
