Gone again

2009 May 30

First of all, I have to say again how awesome you ladies are. Your encouraging comments totally make my day.

I’m on my own again this weekend. The Other is at a conference in one of the “I” states–Indiana, I think? Where is Bloomington? (I am so lame with the geography of the middle of the country.) Anyway, you’ll be happy to know that instead of eating the contents out of three cans of food I found in the pantry last night, I made myself an actual meal.* Thank goodness for our CSA, which started last weekend, because we had some amazing yummy veggies that had to be eaten. I made an omelette with baby spinach and swiss, which was fab, and a salad with arugula and some delish weird variety of lettuce, which I topped with another salad of grated baby turnips and grated granny smith apple, cilantro, and lemon juice. I was quite proud of myself.

*The Other begs to differ. She does not consider “breakfast for dinner” to be actual dinner. But still, relatively speaking, I think I have a lot to be proud of for this accomplishment.

Not much going on on the TTC front right now. I have to have one more phone conversation with Cali Cryo to make myself official with them and to go through their orientation. The Other wants to read some more long profiles of other donors just to see and to make sure we’re not overlooking something before we order. Then we will go ahead and tell the fertility center we’re ready, do whatever paperwork is involved and pay those fees, get a purchase order, and place our order with Cali Cryo.

I had a great physical therapy appt yesterday. My little hoo-ha is getting stronger and all those little muscles in the hips, abdomen, and pelvic cavity that would support a pregnancy are strengthening and getting prepared. It’s such a powerful thing to be preparing my body for pregnancy in this way–it’s so affirming and it really appeals to my proactive side. (I have to confess, though, that the shoebox full of speculums is still sitting by the door, untouched. Ick.)

Work has been weird this week–the museum I work for is owned and operated by our local government and the layoffs we all knew were coming started this week. It’s going to affect the museum somehow, but no one in the know was saying anything for like two days. It was clear from the appearance of my director’s boss Tuesday and the subsequent 2-hour meeting behind closed doors that some shit was going down. So the gossip and rumors started immediately and everyone was scared. I thought for a day or two I might be getting laid off–I’m one of the newer hires, and because of civil service rules, seniority trumps pretty much everything else–and was about to be PISSED because there is no way we could TTC without my job. Plus, I like my job. Finally yesterday I just asked the assistant director if I was allowed to ask what was going on. She told me someone was getting laid off, but that that person already knew, and nothing would be official until next week. I hate that for whichever of my coworkers it is, but I breathed a huge sigh of relief knowing that my TTC plans would not have to be put on hold. And that I could continue living in my house and eating. But ugh, this is rough, and I wish everyone could stay.

Bloomington is in Illinois. I only know this from watching too many episodes of the TV series MASH as a kid. Why else would an Australian know something so random as that about a US city.
    Happy cooking!

The omelette and salad sound very tasty- a huge improvement over the tuna on bread heels. It's great to hear that the vajay-jay jazzercise is going well. It really does feel good to be proactive.
Sorry things are crazy at work for you. Layoffs at the university where I work happened about a month ago. Even though I knew my job was safe, the tension in the office made it a very unpleasant place to be.

Breakfast for dinner is 100% legit in my book. In fact, it's preferable to many traditional dinners. I'm glad your job is secure for now – we went through a layoff too and it was scary.

There is also a Bloomington in Indiana. I used to live there. It is a wonderful place: home of IU (the once home of Bobby Knight). The town is strangely gay laden and gay friendly. There are also tons of wonderful vegetarian restaurants, good ethnic restaurants and whole food markets. I miss it so much! I hope the other has an opportunity to get to find some of the fun B-town has to offer.

Glad you get to keep your job. Such a relief!

I love breakfast food for dinner, you must make your “fancy” meal for her when she gets back. Glad to hear that everything is coming along nicely for you all in the area of TTC.

Ok two things first – Breakfast for dinner DEFINITELY counts as dinner. Of the best kind! And I too revert to pitiful student like meals when my wife is out of town lol.

Glad your job is safe, the rumours and uncertaintly sure suck!

That's where she was–it was a conference at IU! She was only there for like a day, but from what she saw of the town, she liked it. We are always thinking about where we'll move next, so she tries to “shop” these university/college cities a bit wherever she goes.
